Carer Money Matters/ Fuel Poverty

Caring for someone with a long term health issue means having to spend a lot more money to heat a home sufficiently.

Some carers struggle to afford fuel bills due to depleted incomes or/and other significant costs associated with caring for someone with an illness       ( e.g. expensive equipment. home adaptions, special diets, travel, medical appointments.)

The person they care for is usually at home more and therefore more energy is needed to keep their home warm for longer than average.

The Fuel Poverty Project provides:

  • Advice & Information on energy efficiency.

  • Where possible, help maximise household income and reduce debts through benefits checks

  • Registration to the Priority Services Register (PSR),

  • CO safety advice and access to free CO alarms.

  • Application for Locking Cooker Valves for the Cared For with Dementia

  • One-to-One appointments

  • Carers Advice Surgeries in community settings Signposting

  • Support Organisations

  • and relevant Grants.
