Helping Family Carers

Are you a parent carer?

Caring for your child with a disability or health condition brings many diverse challenges to families and is often a lifelong commitment. Maybe you are part of the ‘sandwich generation’?

More and more parents are combining looking after a dependent child under the age of 18 with caring for an adult relative or friend’- this is sometimes called ‘sandwich caring’.

The Helping Family Carers project at Swansea Carer Centre is designed and co-produced by carers for carers – this means that we can provide the tailored, personal support you need at the right time to make a difference.

The demands of caring can have an impact on a carers own health, well-being, employment and career, finances and family life and the Helping Family Carers project offers a range of services to help, including:

  • Information
  • Advocacy support
  • Bespoke training
  • Skills packages
  • Workplace support and advice for carers and employers

We also have weekly coffee mornings for parent carers and sandwich carer groups where you can drop in for information, tea and cake and a friendly chat. Your project, your choice!

We can help with respite or childcare by paying for an existing service you use, or by reimbursing the time of a relative or friend.
