I didn't recognise myself as a carer, then someone put me in touch with the Carers Centre.

A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to family and friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has a mental health or substance misuse problem.

Carers may even be juggling paid work with their unpaid caring responsibility.

The term carer should not be confused with a care worker, or care assistant, who received payment for looking after someone.

If you are looking after someone who is frail, ill or has a disability then you are a Carer.
