In April 1994 Swansea Carers Centre was established as a project within Age Concern West Glamorgan with the remit of helping and supporting carers of older people or older carers. Whilst providing invaluable and much needed support it became increasingly evident that the project, under the umbrella and management of Age Concern was unable to meet the needs of carers who did not fall within the older age group.
In April 2005, with the support of the local authority, SCVS and Age Concern Swansea, Swansea Carers Centre became an independent charity intent on providing a holistic service for all adult carers across the City & County of Swansea. Since then we have grown and diversified our services while successfully responding and adapting to the ever changing challenges facing us.
We are widely recognised by carers as providing practical and emotional support to adult carers across the City & County of Swansea. As such we remain grateful for the support we receive from all our funders and remain mindful that without the core funding we receive from the local authority it would be difficult for us to successfully draw down funding from other sources.
As we strive to maintain and develop our services during this difficult economic climate, we remain committed to providing quality services which meet the needs of carers and which have been externally accredited. This includes achieving PQASSO Quality Mark Level1, Carers Trust Quality Mark, CSSIW Inspection Reports and external evaluations of our Big Lottery Funded Projects.
As we reflect on what Swansea Carers Centre has achieved over the past 20 years and look forward to celebrating 10 years of Swansea Carers Centre as an independent charity in 2015 we remain committed to our mission which is to make a positive difference to the lives of carers across the City & County of Swansea.
