January flew by and Christmas now seems a long way away. Project Cariad’s comprehensive training programme kick started the month with the start of an 8 week ‘Mindfulness’ course.  We are so pleased that 15 carers have booked onto the course plus it was held in our brand new training room at Craddock Street – if you want to book the rooms give Nicky a ring at the Carers Centre and she can show you around.  Then on the 5th we held a one day Emergency First Aid course at Alpha Training in Fforestfach; a 5 week ‘Assertiveness’ training starts on the 25 Feb along with Aikido for Confidence on the same day plus there are still places available for Dementia Awareness on 27 February.  If you are interested or you know of anyone who is a Carer and have not yet contacted the Carers Centre then please contact us.

We had a very exciting day on Wednesday 4th, when ITV Wales came along to do some filming.  They filmed the Book Club in action and spoke to three carers about their experiences of caring;  particularly focusing on how isolating caring can be and, in some cases, lead to depression.

Looking forward to the rest of the month…..we are planning a new project that will support young adult carers and are holding a consultation event, in conjunction with Swansea Bay Crossroads Services and EYST, for any young carer aged 16-25 living in Swansea. If you are a young carer or can identify a young carer then please contact Karen at the Carers Centre.

It is always nice to receive feedback for a carer who we have helped in some small way.  Today we received a lovely email from a carer who recently received a grant from to help her carer for her father.

“Thank you so much for the grant for the chair, my father is like a new man,  it gets him up to a standing position he is so happy, I feel like a weight has been lifted from me.”

We are now in a position to advertise our new training room/meeting space for hire.  Situated at 18 Craddock Street in Swansea City Centre, this space is ideal for a training and meetings.  Contact nicky@swanseacarerscentre.org.uk for details and to book the rooms.
